Now is the time to make sure your vehicle is ready for the temperature change!
Check antifreeze protection level. In most cases -20 to -32 degrees will be adequate. Flush, fill and top off as needed.
Top off washer fluid. We recommend winter washer fluid to help remove the road grime and salts. Also, make sure there is no water in the washer lines so it doesn't freeze. Treating the windshield with Never Fog is also a good idea.
Check tire pressure and tread depth - don't forget the spare.
Check air filter, the flying insects from fall & summer can accumulate quickly.
Lubricate door locks and hinges to help prevent freeze up.
Check wipers and replace if needed, don't forget your rear wiper.
Check that all lights function, clean headlights regularly throughout the winter to optimize your visibility.
Make sure your vehicle has a minimum of booster cables, flashlight, blanket, first aid kit, emergency flares/warning triangles and fire extinguisher. Think about how far you will have to walk if you break down. Never leave the house underdressed for the environment.
Treat your fuel (gas or diesel) to keep water out of your fuel.
If your vehicle is equipped with a winch, unreel your cable and lubricate it, this would also be a good time to inventory your recovery equipment after a long summer of wheeling.
